The Sims Life

When I was a sophomore in college, I ordered the computer game "The Sims" after playing it with a friend during Christmas break. I'm one of those people that's very addiction prone. Good thing I only stick to PC games and television. So I also ordered the three expansion packs: Living Large, House Party, and Hot Date. Let me tell you, the Hot Date expansion pack is NOT family friendly. My friends and I quickly discovered that when your Sims characters are in the heart shaped jacuzzi... their clothes disappear for some reason. I'm still not sure what that reason is.
The game is so awesome! You can build cool houses and download virtually everything under the sun for the little Sims. Even a bearskin rug, dinosaur for the front yard?, and a plasma TV. Quickly I discovered the internet "cheater" sites that showed me how to give my Sims millions of dollars to really live in luxury. And ways to restore their mood and health levels without eating, using the bathroom, or even sleeping! They speak a language that sounds like a mix between Spanish and French. It's random gibberish, but you can see what they're thinking by the thought bubbles above the Sims heads. (Mostly mine were thinking about sailboats or movies)
Because my group of friends was a fairly close knit one, I created Sim characters for all of us. There was a Sim Jen, Sim Calley, Sim Dave (Calley's long distance boyfriend), Sim Mike, Sim Other Mike, Sim Drew, Sim Meg, Sim Ali, and so on... I even created one for my boyfriend at the time. He will remain nameless. But in the game, we really didn't have much chemistry. Little did I know, life would soon imitate computer art. Heck, I put a bunch of my sorority sisters living in a house together with this guy we called "Creepy Ben" This guy was a super senior, and would always sit with us at meals uninvited and hit on just about anyone. Wait a second! I didn't do that. Mike did. Soon, I even got my friends Calley and Mike hooked on the game. Mike was a goner. Calley was a shocker. She's so studious and disciplined, I was surprised to find that her and Mike even spent an entire SUNDAY afternoon playing when I went out shopping. After awhile, we even had to differentiate who we were talking about - the real person, or their Sim character. I know, it's sad. Okay, REALLY sad.
When Calley would play, she would have her character go on dates with her boyfriend's Sim character. Sims can develop relationships with other Sims by conversations and spending time together. They can even go into "flirt" mode. (And for some reason, can put on puppet shows) When Sims have a romantic relationship, there is a pink or red heart over the other person's picture in the Friend Menu. After a few days, Sim Calley and Sim Dave became an item! But then something happened...
Without our knowledge, our real life friend Mike decided to stir things up. He thought it would be amusing to dissolve Sim Calley's relationship with Sim Dave. When Sim Dave would come over to Sim Calley's house, he wouldn't let her open the door. And she wouldn't answer his phone calls. Meanwhile, Sim Jen and Sim Calley started hanging out. Things finally got to the point where one day... I started the game up only to find Sim Jen and Sim Calley in the Sim heart-shaped jacuzzi... making out. That is how Calley and I learned that Sims can, in fact, be gay. We were not very happy with Michael.
